Gordon Biersch closes at Louisville's Fourth Street Live!

Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant at Fourth Street Live! has closed.

A sign posted on the business' front door indicated the location had shuttered, and an employee who answered the restaurant's phone Tuesday told a Courier Journal reporter the German-inspired business "closed permanently today."

The eatery at 400 S. Fourth St. opened in 2012 and anchors one of the corners of the entertainment hub in downtown Louisville. The restaurant was known for its on-site brewery that followed German brewing standards and made-from-scratch food.

The Kentucky location had also been removed from the company's website, which as of July 1 displayed one location in South Carolina.

Gordon Biersch was among a handful of restaurant chains formerly owned by Nashville-based CraftWorks Holdings that were sold to Houston-based SPB Hospitality when CraftWorks filed for bankruptcy in 2020.

SPB Hospitality, an operator and franchisor of full-service restaurants, is an affiliate of investment management firm Fortress Investment Group. Its website no longer lists Gordon Biersch among its brands.

A Fourth Street Live! spokeswoman and SPB Hospitality didn't immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

The entertainment destination in the heart of downtown Louisville is home to Guy Fieri's Smokehouse, Howl at the Moon, The Sports & Social Club, Brazeiros Brazilian Steakhouse and the newly opened Benefinita Modern Italian, among other businesses.
